Bitch you ain't no Barbie
Black Market Barbie?
Barbie has actually been banned in Iran since 1996 for her "destructive cultural and social consequences," but toy stores have ignored the ban. However, in the light of tightening US sanctions against Iran, local police are visiting toy sellers to demand the removal of Barbie.
Instead of Barbie, Iranian stores are supposed to sell Sara (a doll who wears modest Islamic dress) but toy retailers are reportedly responding by covertly stocking Barbies — one manager puts Sara in the window and secretly sells Barbie inside the store.
