I got my feet on the ground and I don't go to sleep to dream...
Fiona Apple is back! And her return to the mic wouldn't be complete unless something was a little odd.
Her first album since Extraordinary Machine in 2005, The Idler Wheel is wiser than the Driver of the Screw, and Whipping Cords will serve you more than Ropes will ever do will drop in June. That should give me just enough time to write out all 23 words on my calendar.
Now that the album release is official, Apple is wasting no time sharing the new songs with her fans. She is scheduled to perform at SXSW on March 15 and kicks off her new tour on March 19 in Chicago.
This isn't the first time Apple has taken a wordy approach to titling an album. The title of her 1999 album, most commonly known as When The Pawn ..., was an entire 90-word poem that Apple herself composed.
This girl is a wack job but I love her.

Once Upon a Watermelon
Pairing the white girl with vanilla and the black girl with watermelon should have set off an alarm in someone’s mind. How is it that out of all 10 Disney princesses—only one of which is black—they chose Princess Tiana to sell their watermelon flavored candy?
Defenders of slavery used the watermelon as a symbol of simplicity arguing that African Americans were happy as slaves. They didn’t need the complicated responsibilities of freedom; they just needed some shade and a cool, delicious treat. Perhaps the stereotype linking black people with watermelon is too antiquated and they let this slide? Or maybe the people in charge of marketing for Disney are marketing assholes?
